The Richland County Land Information and Zoning Committee will be holding a special meeting this Tuesday April 29 at 9 a.m. in the County Board Room (prior to the County Board meeting that starts at 10 a.m.). This will allow for the additional changes requested at the public hearing on April 7 to be included in the updated non-metallic mining section of the county zoning ordinance.
The final draft of the updated ordinance will then be voted on at the May 5 Land Information and Zoning Committee meeting. Once approved, the draft will go to the County Board meeting in May for adoption.
The language to the zoning ordinance to be added is as follows:
“No Industrial Sand Mine operation shall be within one mile of a trout stream or the Pine River.”
Covering of trucks:
“No person may cause, allow or permit any materials to be handled, transported or stored without taking precautions to prevent particulate matter from becoming airborne. Precautions shall include, but not be limited to: covering, treatment or securing of materials likely to become airborne from haul trucks during transport, prior to any transportation off site from the quarry or mine.”
Covering of sand piles:
“Application of asphalt, water, suitable chemicals or plastic covering on dirt roads, material stockpiles and other surfaces which can create airborne dust, provided such application does not create a hydrocarbon, odor or water pollution problem.”
Please attend if possible to show your support of these changes.
